Questions

Before you float

How high do we fly?

The advantage of a balloon over any other aircraft is its diversity: it can skim over the desert one minute and climb to more than 1,000 metres the next, with panoramic views all the way. Each flight profile depends on the wind and the mood of the morning.

When is the flying time?

Early in the morning, when the weather conditions are at their most favourable. We fly daily, between 6 and 11 AM.

How long are the flights?

The balloon flight itself lasts about an hour. The whole excursion takes around five hours: pick-up, continental breakfast during the inflation, the flight, the traditional Berber breakfast in the tent, the camel ride in the palmeraie, and the 4×4 ride home.

What is the temperature during the flight?

Approximately the same as on the ground. The balloon moves with the air mass, so there is no wind and no chill factor aboard the basket.

What will we see?

The fantastic desert landscape, the Atlas mountains covered with snow, and Berber villages from above. Each flight is unique — a balloon cannot be steered, so it is always the wind that decides how the true beauty of nature is revealed to you.

Will I be airsick?

No. Because there is no physical link between the balloon and the ground, there is no feeling of dizziness or vertigo. The basket stays remarkably stable, and take-off feels like the earth is gently dropping away.

I have a heart condition — can I fly?

The flight is very gentle, but if you have a cardiac problem and plan to fly with us, it is better to ask your doctor first.

Why are flights sometimes cancelled in seemingly good weather?

Because of the strength of the wind at altitude, which can differ from the ground. Our pilots take the conditions aloft into consideration every single morning — if we cancel, you rebook or get a full refund.

Why do we fly only in the morning?

Balloons go with the wind; the pilot only controls altitude with the burners. Stable air, light wind and mild temperature are essential — and the only reliable window for all three is just after sunrise. Happily, dawn is the most beautiful moment of the day.

Where do we take off?

The pilot chooses the take-off point according to the wind direction, to make each flight as interesting as possible. As a rule we launch north of Marrakesh, between the Tensift wadi and the Jbilet mountains, with magnificent views over the desert and the Atlas.

Can we sit in the basket during the flight?

No — all passengers stand for the duration of the flight, and bend their knees for the landing. It is part of the fun.

How many passengers are there in the basket?

We have baskets for 4 up to 20 passengers, depending on the balloon and the formula you choose.

How qualified are the pilots?

All our pilots are highly qualified and accredited by the Moroccan and European civil aviation authorities, with thousands of flight hours across many countries in their logbooks.
